'Yard planning is one of the key jobs for yard administrators in our depot since daily container turnover is quite high. We had no system support to this work before, and daily yard planning could only be documented in paper and manually passed to first line operators. The paper work brought us headache in maintenance since it was always laggard. The out-of-date yard planning led to plenty of mis-operations at gate as well as stacker, which became one of the biggest issues ahead of us.
After DMS was implemented in our depot, the trouble was gone forever. With the support of DMS, we yard administrators are able to work out the optimal yard container storage plan into system which will be instantly shared to gate operators and stacker drivers to follow up; moreover, DMS helps us to monitor the real-time yard storage. The original planning will be automatically updated based on the pre-defined rules. Unknowingly, all the operations inside the depot are standing upon the same baseline.
Right now, gate operators and stacker drivers are happy with their work as well. Finding a suitable yard location, which used to be a trouble work, becomes automation in DMS. Based on the real-time yard planning, system can always locate a best yard location. The operation efficiency and accuracy at gate and stacker have been greatly improved. All of those contribute to the enhanced customer satisfaction recently.

'To maximize the use of containers, shipping companies have setup
various
of rules to control containers that are released to their customers, especially for containers with special conditions. Depot is requested to strictly follow those rules, which is one of the KPIs in depot performance evaluation from shipping companies. My depot handles plenty of outbound business where container gate out control becomes even more critical. Any incorrect container release could lead to serious consequence (e.g. fail to catch up vessel). As the result, depot will undertake huge compensation.
Fortunately, DMS equips us with a powerful tool to manage the need of diverse business rules (e.g. container hold, nomination, grading, FIFO) for container gate out. Rules from shipping companies can be well maintained into system, and will be eventually applied to gate out process to ensure the correct containers being release.
Since DMS was implemented in our depot, we are no longer worrying about the huge compensations due to wrong release of containers.'

'As a third party depot, service quality is particularly important to us.
For example, some shipping company requests us to provide FIFO service.
It was almost un-achievable to us without an advanced IT system.
DMS provides a multi-dimensional visualized view for container yard.
It helps our supervisor to locate all the containers per
shipping companies or cargo agents quickly, and we can find out the first-in
container from the visualized view easily.
Nowadays, we are able to master all the storage information of in-depot containers without
stepping out of our office. We can quickly locate containers with their detailed information in the system, not only the current but also their history. DMS has a nice yard view!’
